Student Health Insurance

All full-time Rensselaer students must have health insurance that will provide on-going, routine care in Troy, NY.

To meet this requirement, all full-time students must either enroll in the Rensselaer-sponsored Health Insurance plan offered by CDPHP (RPI/CDPHP), or waive out of the plan by providing proof of an existing insurance plan that will provide for the student's routine, ongoing care in Troy, NY.

The enrollment or waiver form is mandatory and must be completed via the Student Online Health Portal.

For fall semester enrollment, the form must be submitted by September 1; For the spring semester, the enrollment/waiver form must be completed February 1.

New Graduate Students

In addition to the requirements above, new graduate students are required to have dental insurance and will be automatically enrolled in the RPI/Delta Dental dental insurance plan. However, new graduate students who currently have dental insurance may be eligible to waive out of the RPI/Delta Dental plan. International Students

Travel insurance does not work the same as traditional United States health insurance plans and will not meet the requirements to waive the RPI/CDPHP plan. As a result, international students should not purchase a new (or renew an existing) travel insurance plan and will need to enroll in the RPI/CDPHP plan by affirming enrollment on the health portal.

International students will only be allowed to waive out of the RPI/CDPHP health insurance plan if they have a traditional, US-based health insurance plan.
