All full-time Rensselaer students must have health insurance that will provide on-going, routine care in Troy, NY. The Student Health Insurance Plan, provided by MVP, is available to all students with coverage beginning August 1, 2024. You can take a look at the plan highlights, a quick summary of the plan, or a more detailed summary of the plan. Students can enroll in the plan here.
RPI, MVP, and Delta Dental have engaged the broker Haylor, Freyer, & Coon (HFC) to conduct the Enrollment/Waiver process for both Health and Dental Insurance on their Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Portal. Students who wish to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan and use their own insurance can do so here.
For fall semester enrollment, the deadline is September 1; For the spring semester, the deadline is February 1.
New Graduate Students
In addition to the requirements above, new graduate students are required to have dental insurance and will be automatically enrolled in the RPI/Delta Dental insurance plan. However, new graduate students who currently have dental insurance may be eligible to waive out of the RPI/Delta Dental plan. Take a minute to get more information regarding the Rensselaer Dental Plan. Graduate Students who wish to waive the RPI/Delta Dental Insurance Plan can do so here.
International Students
Travel insurance does not work the same as traditional United States health insurance plans and will not meet the requirements to waive the RPI plan. As a result, international students should not purchase a new (or renew an existing) travel insurance plan and will need to enroll in the RPI plan by affirming enrollment on the enrollment portal.
International students will only be allowed to waive out of the RPI health insurance plan if they have a traditional, US-based health insurance plan.
