Primary Care Behavioral Health Campus Consortium (PCBH-CC)

PCBH-CC logo

A Practice-Based Research Network focused on PCBH services on college and university campuses

PCBH-CC Mission: Join together a national network of campuses implementing the PCBH model to learn from one another as we study the implementation of evidence-based PCBH practices and translate new knowledge into practice.

PCBH-CC currently includes 9 member schools, some of which include:

  • Colorado State University Health Network
  • Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Student Health Services
  • University Health Center, University of Georgia
  • University of Nevada Las Vegas
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison, University Health Services

What is PCBH?

Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) is a team-based approach to addressing behavioral health conditions in primary care settings. The PCBH model involves embedding a behavioral health clinician into a primary care service to perform two main functions: (1) support the delivery of care to patients with mental health conditions and (2) help patients manage physical health ailments which have biopsychosocial linkages. Generally, these systems include behavioral health clinicians staffed within the health center consulting with primary care providers, providing short-term counseling interventions, and referring patients needing long-term mental health services to the independent college counseling center (Reiter et al., 2018).

The evaluation framework used by PCBH-CC: RE-AIM (Glasgow, Vogt, & Boles, 1999)

The student population receiving beahavioral health services in primary care.

Functional improvements experienced by clients (e.g., BHM-20 scores)

Primary care provider engagement in team-based care (e.g., levels of referrals; warm handoffs)

Implementation fidelity

  • Primary Care Behavioral Health Provider Adherence Questionnaire - PPAQ

Level of integration

  • Practice Integration Profile - PIP 2.0

Sustainability of PCBH services (e.g., provider satisfaction; structural/policy changes)
