I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Kevin Readdean, Ph.D., LMHC as Director of the Counseling Center, effective February 16, 2023.
Dr. Readdean joined Rensselaer in July 2007 as Associate Director of Student Health Services where he oversaw administrative and health promotion functions. He served as Interim Director of Counseling during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters and again since October 2022. During these time periods he streamlined student access to counseling services by expanding drop-in counseling services to include four afternoons per week in five different campus locations and transitioning all first time clinic appointments to brief, primary care focused interventions. In addition, he led the team’s pivot to tele-therapy services during the pandemic, ensuring counseling services were maintained through periods of remote learning and social distancing.
Prior to his tenure at Rensselaer, Dr. Readdean served as the Director of Health and Counseling Services at SUNY Cobleskill, where he led his team to their inaugural accreditation by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Healthcare. He is also a past president of the New York State College Health Association and has served as a regional representative on the American College Health Association Board of Directors.
Additionally, he has published and presented widely on the integration of primary care and behavioral health services in college health and is a co-founder of the American College Health Association Integrated College Health Coalition. He was instrumental in securing a $50,000 grant from the Patrick Lee Foundation to support the mental health of STEM students. This grant will fund the Mainstreaming Mental Well-being Project at Rensselaer.
Dr. Readdean received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clarkson University in 1991, a master’s degree in 1992 from the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctoral degree in health sciences from Rutgers University in 2022. He also holds a license to practice mental health counseling in New York State.
