RENSSELAER COUNSELING CENTER TO PARTNER WITH THE LARGEST GRASSROOTS MENTAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION TO EXPAND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS

According to a survey of more than 400 college presidents by the American Council of Education (ACE), student mental health concerns have escalated over the last 10 years.  Anxiety and depression were the most common mental health issues president’s said they hear about.   The results of this study show the growing need for more mental health services on college campuses.

Based on these needs, the Rensselaer Counseling Center is proud to announce a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Capital Region to help expand counseling resources and services for students experiencing mental health issues.

At this time, students can go to the Rensselaer Counseling Center Website to explore the various programs that NAMI is hosting virtually this month.  Some of these programs include virtual journaling, yoga, cooking classes, comedy show, a night of Musical’s to name a few.

In addition, NAMI holds a weekly Peer-led support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition.  These meetings are held every Tuesday at 5:00 pm EST virtually through Zoom Meeting due to the Coronavirus social distancing conditions.  For family/friends who have a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition, NAMI offers a peer-led Family Support Group which is held every Thursday at 5:30pm EST virtually through Zoom Meeting. ABOUT NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Today, we are an association of more than 600 local Affiliates and 48 State Organizations who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, NAMI joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year NAMI fights stigma, provides support, educates the public and advocates for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
