Leslie Lawrence, MD, is a graduate of Cornell University and received his MD degree from Albany Medical College. He completed his residency in Family Practice at St. Claire’s Hospital in Schenectady, New York and is Board Certified. Dr. Lawrence was in private practice with admitting privileges to Saratoga Hospital for over ten years, and then became Medical Director at the University at Albany. In January of 2004 Dr. Lawrence joined Rensselaer as Medical Director. He has a special interest in the areas adolescent medicine and anxiety and depressive disorders, and enjoys teaching students.
Kevin Readdean, MSEd, LMHC, joined the Student Health Center in 2007. He received his Masters in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania and is a licensed Mental Health Counselor. Prior to joining Rensselaer, Kevin was Administrative Director of the Health and Counseling Services at SUNY Cobleskill. Kevin is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Systems Administration from Rutgers University.
Monica Durivage, RPA-C, joined the Student Health Center in 1986. She was appointed Associate Director in 2003. She is a 1981 Honors graduate of the HVCC-Albany Medical College Physician Assistant Program. She is nationally certified and a Fellow in the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Bonnie Bornt, Operations Specialist, joined the Health Center staff in 1982. Bonnie has been the main liaison for all the student insurance patient problem solving and insurance correspondence. Her interests include golf, Native American culture and she currently enjoys sponsoring an 8 year old little girl from the Philippines. She loves to spend time with her grandchildren.
Jackie Bond (Alaskey), Operations Associate, joined the Student Health Center in August 2008 as a part-time employee, and became full time in October 2008. She has her Associates Degree in business management. Her interests are being outdoors in the nice weather, traveling, reading, cooking, watching movies, and home projects. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her Lab mix, Maddy.
Meg Reiser, Operations Associate, joined Student Health Center in 2011. She has been working in the medical field in the Troy area for 24 years. Meg and her family enjoy camping, snowmobiling, drive-in movies, and going to the ocean. Meg enjoys cooking, crocheting, gardening, swimming and just hanging out with family.
Deloria Floyd came to SHC part-time in 2000 and became fulltime with the Counseling Services in 2013. Aside from RPI she has 18 years in emergency room experience. She has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Deloria enjoys playing with and watching her niece grow.
Margarita Farley, MD received her bachelor's degree from Union College and is a graduate of Albany Medical College. She completed a residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital and is a board certified family physician. Prior to joining the staff at Rensselaer, she worked as a primary and urgent care physician for Albany Medical Center and as a staff physician at the University at Albany Health Center.
Karen Gaunay, RN joined the Student Health Center in 1991. She is a graduate of Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Troy, New York. Karen also works per-diem in the Emergency Department at Samaritan Hospital. She is BLS, ACLS and PALS certified. Her interests include walking, cooking, traveling and watching the Yankees. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and her bulldog Charlie.
Jewel Robinson joined the SHC team in 2004. She is a graduate of Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, in Troy . Prior to coming to RPI she worked as a staff nurse at the University at Albany and also has several years’ experience in OB/GYN and Pediatric nursing. Jewel enjoys to spend any free time she has with her family and friends, taking walks with the family dogs, and dancing.
Tami Simmons has been a Medical Assistant and in the Medical Field for 33 years in the Troy area. Her favorite things to do are to spend time with her family and especially her Yorkie, Bud. She also enjoys working with and dipping chocolate for the holidays.
Colleen Shamberger RN, BSN joined the Student Health Center in January 2017. She graduated from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She brings with her a variety of nursing experience as she has worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital and New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. Prior to coming to RPI she worked with students in K-8th grade in Niskayuna and Saratoga Springs as a school nurse for over 7 years. Colleen enjoys baking and hiking with her husband, 3 children and dog, Cooper. Growing up in Buffalo, NY she is and always will be an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan.
Xiaoyan Zhang, RN joined the Student health Center in 2017. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Southeast University (China) and worked as a pediatrician at hospital in Beijing for 7 years. In 2009, she graduated with honor from nursing program at Lake Michigan College. Prior to joining RPI, she worked with children and adolescents as a residential charge nurse in Albany for over 6 years. She enjoys spending times with her family and friends.
Tara Schuster, MS MCHES joined the RPI Student Health Center in 2008. She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of New Hampshire and her Master's Degree in Community Health Education from The Sage Colleges. Tara is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) and received her credentialing via the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. In addition, Tara has completed graduate work in Educational Psychology from Georgia State University and Higher Education and Counseling in Student Affairs from the University of Virginia. Tara has been a Health Educator in the field of higher education since 1998, having served as a Health Educator at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and Health Educator/Faculty at University of Virginia previous to coming to RPI. Tara's special interests include alcohol risk-reduction and LGBTQ awareness and support.
Nii Opare-Addo, MPH joined RPI in January of 2016. Prior to joining RPI, Nii has served in many administrative roles within Student Affairs at The University at Albany, SUNY, The College of Saint Rose, and The Sage Colleges. Nii received his Bachelors in Biology and a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management from the University at Albany. Nii’s interests include Health Equity, Advocacy for underrepresented populations, gang Intervention, and sexual health and sexual misconduct. Nii is also a proud active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and has some background in advising undergraduate chapters. Nii lives in Albany, NY with his pit-bull/lab mix puppy.
Dr. Benjamin Marte, MD joined the Student Health Center as Director of Counseling Services in mid-2008. He graduated from medical school from the University of the Philippines. He completed general psychiatry training from the University of Vermont and received training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Prior to joining Rensselaer, Dr. Marte was medical director for United Counseling Services for Bennington County in Bennington, VT. He also served as medical director for Grant Mental healthcare in Moses Lake, WA.
Joseph Albert, PhD, (Dr. Joe) received his BA in psychology from Antioch College ('61) and his MA ('66) and PhD ('69) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois. Joe, who has been licensed as a psychologist since 1971, also has an active private practice. He enjoys amateur theater, science fiction and spending time with his grandchildren and his "chug" (chihuahua/pug mix) named Peggy.
Keith Anderson, PhD, joined Counseling Services in 1994. A licensed psychologist, he received his doctorate from the University of Georgia. He has worked with college students since 1981 including Counseling Centers at SUNY Potsdam, UC Santa Barbara and American International College.
Lorna Guyett, PhD, joined Counseling services in 1994. She received her BS ('85) and MS ('87) in Experimental Psychology from SUNY Cortland, and her PhD ('95) in Counseling Psychology from SUNY Albany. Lorna is a New York State licensed psychologist.
Lydia Rest, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in addictions counseling. She received her Masters in Social Work from SUNY Albany and has experience working with people from all walks of life. Her goal is to provide outreach services to the students of RPI to increase accessibility to the counseling center. In her spare time she enjoys listening to music, craft projects and going to the movies (especially horror movies).
Sheryl Spencer, MSW LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker & received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sheryl has been practicing individual and family psychotherapy since 2005 with outpatient & inpatient experience in the treatment of a broad spectrum of mental health disorders. Sheryl has worked in multicultural communities in Northern California and the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. She has also provided psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families at Saratoga County Mental Health and Glens Falls Hospital Outpatient Behavioral Health. While Sheryl is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she embraces an eclectic treatment approach.....incorporating various schools of psychotherapy in order to meet the specific needs of the individual.
Jaqualyn Iardella, LMSW, joined the Student Health Center in 2016. Jaqualyn earned a Masters in Social Work from SUNY Albany. She has worked with various populations including children with autism spectrum disorder, adults with developmental disabilities, adults and adolescents with various mental health conditions and in addiction treatment. Her goal is to grow the Office of Disability Services for Students and continue to enhance inclusion for students with disabilities on campus. Jaqualyn enjoys spending her spare time with her family.
